About
A simple idea, rooted in environmental science.
Sandile Sithole, a BSc Environmental Science graduate, started PlastiGrow Systems after seeing two problems sit side by side: plastic nobody wants, and families who want to grow food but have nowhere durable to plant.
It began with household waste collection around Mbombela — Nelspruit — not a distant factory. Plastic that was already in the street became the raw material for something a yard could actually use.
From that collection came product innovation: modular planters, raised beds, and stackable kits that can be made locally and used nationally. The point was never a one-season pot. It was infrastructure for food.
PlastiGrow Systems is based in the Mbombela area and works with schools, community groups, NGOs, recyclers, and partners across South Africa.
Pilot status. PlastiGrow Systems is an early-stage enterprise based in Mbombela, building recycled planter systems for schools, households, and partners. Prototype and pilot documentation coming as projects go live. We do not publish testimonials or partner names until a project is real and the people involved have agreed.
Every school and township household that wants to grow food should have a garden bed that lasts.
The vision — practical, local, and meant to be shared.
Started from
Household waste, collected where it was already a problem.
Trained in
Environmental science — the two crises read as one system.
Working from
Mbombela / Nelspruit, in service of the whole country.
That is the vision: waste becoming infrastructure for food — practical, local, and built to be shared with schools, community groups, NGOs, and partners.
